I have called him Padre’ (father) Thom for a couple of years now. I think that Zeke, Padre Thom’s oldest child, is only about year old now. And Thom is about 20 years younger then I! So why do I call Thom a Padre’? The simple reason is that Thom is the epitome of a gentile and nurturing soul that we call Fatherhood. And, possibly, I might slightly have helped to persuade Thom to become a Padre’ (or Father, Priest, or Reverend) in the theological realms. Well, Thom has decided to take that call that few of us have been blessed with. Thom is going to attend a Seminary!  read more
Padre Thom, Zeke, and Lucy
Free long distance calls? You bet your sweet bippy, but with a couple of caveats. Uhm, actually it is more then a couple, now that I think about. The caveats are; 1, You have to use your computer to place the free calls, which means that, 2, you need a working microphone and speaker hooked up to your puter, 3, you need to download and install a free program called Skype, and 4, to make a call to someone’s hand phone (wither that is their home phone or cell phone) you need to purchase Sykpe credit (minimum $10). Oh, and the free long distance calls are only for the US and Canada. A total of 5 caveats for 10 bucks, worth it? Let me know. Oh, btw, my Skype name is B.Witte.

Wray Post Community Calendar
I know you all like to keep current with what’s happening in Wray with the Wray Post :-Þ, but sometimes there is/are times when you want to know what is happening 1, 2, and even 3 months from now. Where are you going to find that info when your crystal ball ain’t working? Well, the Wray Post of course. All you have to do is head on over to the Wray Post Calendar webpage (there is a link under the news stories). And if that were not enough, you can also email the Post what you have got happening in the future and we will get it posted on the calendar for ya’.
IE Logo
It is being reported that within the next month that Windows will automatically download Internet Explorer (IE) 7 on to your computer. BUT, it will not automatically install it, it will only ask you IF you want to install IE7. You will have to confirm that you want it installed, and you do want to install IE7 for a more secure web browser. A web browser is the program that lets you read the Wray Post. Wray Post still believes that everyone should switch to Firefox as web browser, but many have been late to jump onto the bandwagon. So for security reasons, when you see a dialog box ask you if you want to install IE7, please click; YES!
PDF Pad
Hang in here with me, this may take abit to set the story up. Okay, it is Sunday afternoon, and Junior informs you that he needs to finish his homework for tomorrow. Wow, you think, you did not even have to twist his ear off to do his homework! But really what Junior is asking, do you have some graph paper for his homework project? Of course he has known about this “project” for 10 days, but you have just heard that graph paper is needed and all the stores are closed! What are you going to do? Well, fortunately you read the Wray Post and bookmarked the website PDF Pad, for at that site you can print out graph paper, calendars, and much more. Mom, you are a Hero!
Firefox 2.0
IE7 was released just last week, and yipping on its heels is Firefox 2.0! If you have read the Wray Post at all, you already know that as far as browser's are concerned; there is only one choice. And that choice ain’t IE. But of course it is Firefox. With the release of 2.0, Firefox has not only combined all of the security patches that those wonderful wizards have manufactured the last few years, but they have also combined some improved features. If you have never tried Firefox, Please give it a shot if only for security reasons. Remember that you share the web with others, and if you insist in using IE, you are a danger to all of us.
Microsoft Defender
Following up on the rant about using Firefox for security reasons, I need to mention that Microsoft has a very good anti-spyware program. It is called Defender, and yes it is also free. For any of those of you that have had a system corrupted by spyware, no definition is needed. But for those that have somehow have turned a deaf ear to security and its nomenclature, spyware is the beast that will hijack your browser, create popups so bad that all you do is close non-requested windows, and spyware is a magnet for Trojans viruses (Trojans are programs that let others control your computer). If any of those symptoms sound familiar, please download Defender and help the net live free! ;-þ
AVG Free
We all know, by now, that having a good anti-virus program is imperative. So the Wray Post has been using AVG for at least the last 3 years with out a hitch or even a small hic-up. AVG has had many updates, the updates are automatic, since we first stared using it. But, today there is a new version of AVG. They have gone from release version 7.1 to 7.5 and you need to manually download and install this new release. Please do so, for the older 7.1 version will stop being supported in just a little while. If you have never tried AVG and you old anti-virus is up for renewal, why not give AVG a try, it’s FREE! And has the Wray Post seal of approval!!
FasterFox
Last week we introduced many of you to Firefox, which we hope you installed. To follow up on our web browser recommendation, we want to show just one of reasons, besides security, why Firefox is the best. That reason is called Extensions. Extensions allow you do more, well, stuff. Take Fasterfox for example. Fasterfox, when installed, really speeds up the display times to download webpages. To try Fasterfox, just click here, or go up top to the menu bar, click Tools, click Add Ons, click Get Extensions, and in the search bar type “Fasterfox”. Then install and enjoy faster surfing!
Crop Circle
For Thanksgiving Day, I took my folks to Wray England and then we flew over to New York, New York, then back home, where we saw an interesting crop circle, all in one day! You say impossible? I say pllbt, tis’ true. We flew via cyber airlines with Flash Earth. Flash Earth is a web based satalite that uses Google Maps, Yahoo maps, and other satalite images so that you can fly all over the world. Let’s say that you want to start from Wray, type in the zip code (80758) and you are at the Wray Airport! Now you can either move around with the mouse, or type in other postal codes and “Bang” (as Ermil would say) you are there! Where are you going today?
Shut Down XP
Click Start to shutdown your computer? Not me, I just click Shutdown, that is it! Here is how you can do it too. Right click a blank spot on your Desktop, go to New>Shortcut. Type in, Shutdown -S -t 0, click Next. Type in, Shutdown, click Finish. Now let us change that icon, right click on it, click Properties, click the Shortcut Tab, click Change Icon (towards the bottom) and then select the icon you want, click Okay, click Okay, and viola you now have a One Click shutdown for that Windows box! Think of all the time you have saved yourself without those extra clicks.
Fax Zero
Right out of the pages of really cool stuff, here is Fax Zero! If you are at home and need to fax a document, did I mention that you do not have a fax machine at home, what are you going to do, go to work so that you can fax that document? Not if you read the Wray Post. You will instead go to Fax Zero and freely send that fax from home. Fax Zero will even send you an email when that fax has been received, or not, by the folks that needed that document faxed to them. Caveat; the document you want to fax needs to be on your computer, of course. So instead of writing that document in long hand, just type it in on your puter.
Word Shoot
Today's time waster, Word Shoot. As I type this, I realize that this may not be the best time waster game, but I digress. Word Shoot is a simple little game in that you are a lone little tank that needs to defend itself against ever increasing other mean little tanks. The twist to this game, and what makes it good, is that to shoot the other mean little tanks you type the name that is under them! Sounds easy, right? Well, the little mean tanks keep coming at ya', and if you misspell just once, then you are one mean little tank behind that is pluggin' away at ya'. As the pressure builds, you need to type faster, or in my case, it was miss-type faster. Hence this game is not really a time waster if it builds yours, and mine, typing skills. Word Shoot.
Google Sketch Up
Weekend project for very cold weather, build a house! What, you think I am crazy? Well, that probably is true, but it does not mean that building a house this weekend with Google Sketchup 6.0 should be overlooked. You think that learning a new program is too much work? Also true, except for in this case. This is one of the easiest programs to play, er to learn, that I have ever downloaded. And remember, I am crazy, so you should be able to learn it really quick. I should also mention that this is another free program from Google.
